Apply for Assistance

Finn’s Friends provides limited, one-time financial assistance to help Michigan residents obtain and care for dogs that serve as emotional support animals. Our goal is to reduce financial barriers so more people can experience the comfort, stability, and companionship a dog can provide.

Who we Help

​You may be eligible for assistance if you:

  • Live in Michigan

  • Are 18 years of age or older (parents may apply for minor children)

  • Are experiencing a financial need

  • Are seeking to adopt a dog or care for a dog that serves as an emotional support pet

  • Have documentation from a licensed healthcare or mental health professional indicating you would benefit from an emotional support pet, or already have a dog that serves this role

What Assistance we Provide

​Finn's Friends may provide assistance for:

  • Dog adoption, purchase, or rehoming fees

  • Basic supplies, including:

    • Food​

    • Leash and collar

    • Crate

    • Veterinary care

    • Other essential supplies

Assistance is one time per individual and may be provided in an amount of up to $1000 depending on need and available funds.​

How Assistance is Provided

Approved assistance may be provided by:

  • Paying vendors/organizations directly, or

  • Reimbursing approved expenses with receipts

The method of payment is determined by Finn's Friends on a case-by-case basis.​

Important Things to Know

  • Submitting an application does not guarantee assistance

  • Funding is limited and decision are based on eligibility, need, and available resources

  • Finn's Friends does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or emotional support animal certifications

  • Applicants are responsible for all future costs associated with pet ownership

How to Apply for Assistance

To request assistance, please complete our online application form. The application asks about your situation, the assistance you are requesting, and your financial need. You do not need to provide income documentation.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. We may contact you if additional information is needed.

All information shared with Finn's Friends is kept confidential and used solely to evaluate eligibility and administer our assistance program.
